Canal Saint-Martin Food Tours FAQ

Frequently asked questions

General

What’s included in the tour?

Each tour includes the guided walk, all tastings listed in the “What’s included” section, and special access to private spaces (tasting cellar, roastery backroom…). Still water is available during stops, and there are public fountains along the way.

Is it a walking tour?

Yes, we walk about 3 kilometers. Comfortable shoes are recommended.

How long is the experience?

The tour lasts around 3 hours. Depending on the group’s pace, it may run up to 30 minutes longer — at no extra cost. Guests often choose to stay after the official end to continue chatting by the canal. We recommend keeping your schedule flexible!

Who is the tour for?

It’s for curious travelers who want to experience a different side of Paris, away from tourist hotspots, as well as locals looking for a meaningful, social experience. Whether you’re coming alone or with others, you’re welcome.

How many stops are there?

There are 5 tasting stops, plus a few short pauses to share stories about the neighborhood.

How big are the groups?

Tours are limited to 10 people to keep the experience personal and relaxed.

Can I book for my children?

Children over 6 are welcome if accompanied by an adult. The brunch tour is more family-friendly, offering a relaxed atmosphere and tastings suited to all ages. The apéro tour focuses more on natural wines and artisan bites. Teens aged 13 to 17 can join the apéro tour and will be offered a non-alcoholic pairing. If you're planning to bring children, please make sure to mention it in advance — thank you for letting me know ahead of the food tour.

Booking & logistics

How do I book a tour?

Go to the “Book” section of this site, choose the tour you want (brunch or apéro), select a date, and complete your booking online.

Should I book in advance?

Yes, especially since there are only two tours per week. Last-minute spots sometimes open up, so it’s worth checking.

Can I cancel or reschedule?

Yes, cancellations or changes are possible up to three days before the tour.

In what language is the tour?

Tours are in English. If you’re a local looking to practice, you’re more than welcome. Private tours in French are available on request.

What happens if it rains?

Light rain is part of the Parisian experience, so bring an umbrella and a coat. Some tastings take place indoors. If the weather is very bad, the tour may be rescheduled, or you may receive a voucher. In case of extreme weather, a full refund can be offered.

Is the tour available on weekdays?

Not for now. Tours take place on Saturdays only, as I also work full-time during the week. Canal Food Walk is a one-person project, and I lead every tour myself.

Is the tour on Airbnb or other platforms?

Yes, it’s also available on Airbnb, Viator, and Klook.

Why book directly?

Booking platforms charge high fees, which means their prices are higher and I earn less. By booking directly, you support my work more fairly. Payments on my site are securely processed via Ticket Tailor — a trusted partner used by over 73,000 event creators worldwide, with PCI Level 1 compliance and secure payment gateways like Stripe and PayPal. Plus, you’ll receive an exclusive bonus PDF after the tour with my personal recommendations — something third-party platforms simply don’t offer.

Dietary & accessibility

Is the tour vegetarian?

Yes. I’ve chosen to exclude charcuterie, even from the apéro tour, for personal and ethical reasons.

Is the tour accessible for people with reduced mobility?

Unfortunately, the route includes stairs and uneven ground. It isn’t suitable for people with limited mobility.

Are the tours vegan-friendly?

Not fully, as cheese and eggs are part of the experiences. But I’m open to creating a fully vegan tour in the future.

Can I skip cheese, gluten or wine?

Yes, within reason. Please let us know your preferences or dietary restrictions when you book. Alternatives can be provided where possible.

Can you accommodate food allergies or intolerances?

Yes, just let me know in advance and I’ll do my best to adapt.

Communication

Where does the tour take place, and how will I receive the address and directions after booking?

You’ll receive all meeting point details by email once your booking is confirmed. You can also find general info on the tour pages (section "Meeting Point")

Can I contact you before booking?

Absolutely. I’m happy to answer your questions and help you plan your visit. For more details or to get in touch, feel free to visit my Contact page.

Will I get recommendations after the tour?

Yes. I can send a follow-up with the list of places we visited, historical photos, and a bonus guide with extra recommendations — local cafés, restaurants, and shops around the canal.
